Korean Travel Online - Sparkling Secrets - Swarovski Exhibit at Daelim Museum

"Sparkling Secrets - Swarovski" explores the 117 years of Swarovski's stories and artistic experiments which is being featured for the first time in an Asian Museum.

The exhibition highlights crystal as a material of artistic creation, not just simple jewelry concentrating on a unique attribute of crystal itself. Focusing on splendid aura and rich spectrum of crystal, artists present the artworks reinterpreted in their own ways including design, installation, media art and architecture.

For something fun, you can download the free museum app from these QR codes. Once you install the app, you can collect stamps and complete missions.

Sparkling art pieces of Swarovski, being loved by celebrities and designers are also displayed. Swarovski items worn by Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, and Lady Gaga who led the trend of the times show the glamorous beauty encompassed a century. Furthermore, it exhibits Haute Couture dresses collaborated with renowned fashion designers such as Giorgio Armani, Vivienne Westwood and Vera Want and provides an experience space where visitors are able to be a star by wearing Swarovski's stunning items in the shooting studio.

The exhibition shows how European culture and trends are embraced into design through a long heritabe of Swarovski. Moreover, it will be a special chance to encounter leading art collaborations presented at the foremost international design fairs and art festivals. Furthermore, it offers visitors an opportunity to explore a remarkable moment created by light and crystal with differentiated display methods and to discover aesthetic value of Swarovski crystal.

Once you finish looking through the exhibit, drop by the gift shop for more awesome crystals.

Don't go home just yet. Head on over to the lounge for some coffee or the shooting studio. Just follow the crystal-shaped markings on the ground.

You can have your photo taken, wearing some Swarovski jewelry, while posing beside a dress. Afterwards, they will give you a code which you can use to download your picture from the Daelim Museum website.

On our way out, we passed by this building with some really quirky chairs on display. It's in the map at the bottom of this page that says Kolon Building. Looking from the window, it looked like it was some sort of exhibit so we decided to go in and check it out. It turns out the building is the Fashion Institute of Kolon and the chairs are part of the Re-design Chair Graduate Exhibition.

Korean Travel Online - Opening a Samgak Kimbap (aka Triangle Kimbap)

The samgak gimbap (삼각김밥) is a popular food item in convenience stores. These triangle shaped goodies come in several varieties. These are good paired with ramyeon too.

Some of there are a bit spicy. If you like something that's not too spicy, try the ham and kimchi fried rice. Some of the samgak kimbap only have white rice but this one has the kimchi fried rice which is more flavorful.

The first time I ate one of these, I didn't know how to open them properly and ended up ruining the seaweed wrap. So here's how to open them up properly. There's also one extra step that I like to do.

1. Hod the easy-open strip with your fingers

2. Pull it down all the way to the back
3. Pull out one side of the wrapper carefully (do this at the tip of the triangle)
4. After pulling it out, put it back in again so you don't have to hold the kimbap with your hands. Then pull out the other side of the wrapper
5. Enjoy!
