Korean Travel Online - Winter Essentials

Korea's winter can be brutally cold. And with government regulations being strict on the energy conservation, some offices won't turn on the heating unless the temperature drops to a certain temperature indoors.

Whether it's indoors or outdoors, here are some winter essentials to help you get through the winter.

Brighten up a black & grey winter outfit with a pop of color. Don't forget those sunglasses either. The sun may seem lower and you may not see it as often, but the UV rays slamming into your eyes are just as potent as those in summer.

A feet warmer connected to USB, or basically anything you can connect to your USB hub if your workplace just won't turn the heating on.

Avoid chapped lips and windblown skin with a face mask. And a beanie with ear flaps for those ears.

A hat and a pair of gloves in black and grey colors, the colors that go with absolutely everything.

A hotpack, sometimes called a heat pack, hand warmer or heating pad.
Coats, gloves, and socks all help keep out the cold but don’t create heat. A hotpack in your pocket, gloves, shoes or even under your clothing can help you stay warmer longer in cold weather.

Navigate the snow covered streets with a good pair of winter boots and choose a coat roomy enough for a layer or two underneath.

Scarves are a must have for warmth and style. Your coat doesn't have a hood? Take an umbrella instead.

Not only do they keep your feet warm and toasty but fluffy socks are also good for sliding around the house like a little kid^^

Korean Travel Online - New Mall in Hapjeong: Mecenatpolis

Whenever my bus would pass by Hapjeong on my way to work, I would see this new mall outside Hapjeong Station Exit 10 with a Lotte Cinema, McDonalds, Caffe Pascucci. I wasn't really enticed to go take a look and I didn't really think there will be more stores inside. Then a few days ago, I noticed a big Uniqlo store. I needed some jeans and cardigan for work so I decided to go for a little clothes shopping. To my surprise, I found more than what I expected. The mall is called Mecenatpolis (메세나폴리스). Aside from Uniqlo, there's also Muji, and 8 seconds and TopTen. For food and drinks, there's Starbucks, McDonalds, Steff Hotdog, Coco Curry House, Angel-in-us, Jamba Juice, Taco Bell, Krispy Kreme, and ChaTime.

I think this will be my new favorite store. It's not very busy (yet) and it's just two subway stops from my house. Sweet!

Korean Travel Online - Why I Love D-Cube City

Myeongdong might still be the most visited shopping district in Seoul. However, it can get too crowded sometimes and all that walking can be exhausting. When you want to explore all your options first before deciding what to buy, walking from Uniqlo, to Zara, to Forever 21, to H&M, and then deciding you want to buy the item you saw at Uniqlo could take time, and a lot of walking. So instead of going to Myeongdong, I go to my favorite mall at Sindorim instead, D-Cube City. On rainy days, being indoors in a mall is better than carrying an umbrella and getting wet at Myeongdong.

The reason why I love this place is it has all but one of my favorite shops in one building:
Muji
Uniqlo
Zara
H&M
Pull and Bear (owned by Inditex Group, which also owns Zara)
Bershka (owned by Inditex Group, which also owns Zara)
Gongcha, for milk tea lovers (this is where Jesters was previously)
Starbucks, 2 of them
Eight Seconds
Codes Combine
ABC Mart
Taco Bell
Guess

The only thing that's missing is Forever21. I guess it's a good thing too, otherwise I would have spent more money and bought more clothes had Forever 21 been there.

Korean Travel Online - International Style Shopping at IFC Mall in Yeouido

The IFC Mall opened in August 2012 at Yeouido, Seoul's financial district that is also dubbed as Korea's Wall Street. There's a whole bunch of international brands, a huge CGV theater, and a row of restaurants. The unique thing about this shopping mall is that it is actually 3-levels down (basement floors only) and has a 17-meter high glass pavilion that lets in natural light to all three lower level floors.

The mall is not very crowded, which might be a good thing for a relaxed, leisurely shopping but maybe not so good for business.  However, I imagine it would be crowded at times when there are events happening around the Han River. Concerts and the fireworks festival tend to attract a lot of people to the area.

It is directly connected to the subway station, but it is quite a long walk. There is a whole row of shops and cafes so it's not a boring walk
